Burma's exiled ethnic nationalities seminar held in North America

Bangkok, November 28, 2004

MON YOUTH COMMUNITY'S AGM HELD

Thailand based MYC or Mon Youth Community held its annual general meeting at Thai Raman Association in Bangkradee near Bangkok and elected a new executive committee.

Several hundreds of MYC members attended the meeting coming from as far as Uthai Thani of the north and Phetburi of the southern Thailand. The meeting took place at the Thai Raman Association and foods and drinks were served by the local community from their village for lunch. The AGM was opened by the President at 10 am followed by dance of the children, then the president introduced EC member of 2002-2004, Secretary reported activities in the past two years, Treasurer reported financial situation and interview with Mon community representatives from different provinces of Thailand.

After having lunch, Ajarn Suthat, the abbot of Wat Thongbor, Ayudhaya present a lecture "the role of the monks for Mon national". After that the election took place not too long got a new president, Nai Ong Banjune, 31 year old graduated master degree. The new president needed to introduce himself to the audience and explain his vision about the future plan for the MYC.

The first task for the newly elected MYC team is to organize for its participation in the forth coming of HM King's birthday on December 5, 2004. The new President called a meeting straight away for that job. The MYC will have a booth at Snam Luang for exhibition, offering foods and performance with Mon traditional dance.
