Two children were killed in a fire on December 27 that also destroyed nine homes in Paung Township just one day after 124 houses were razed by another fire, according to a source in Mon State.

An official of the Burmese government in Paung Township said that one child was nine years old, and the other was six years old. Approximately 50 people became homeless after losing their homes in the fire.

“The fire started at a house around 6 am. The grandparents of the two children went outside, but the door of the house was blocked, and the two children were sleeping inside. They were killed as they could not get out from the house after they woke up,” said the official.

About 124 homes were destroyed by a large fire in Zin Kyaik Village, Paung Township, on December 25 from an electric shock. Nearly 1,000 people became homeless as a result.

Meanwhile, the Burmese authorities have created temporary camps for victims who have lost their homes, and the authorities have also provided food and clothing.
